PENSACOLA PERIL

from $25.00

Seen here is a Peril assigned to Training Squadron 8 at NAS Pensacola, Florida during World War Two.

United States Navy N3N-3 'YELLOW PERIL' primary trainers are the only aircraft built by the United States Navy. The actual name of the aircraft is the 'Canary', for obvious reasons, however because of the perils of being washed out of training while flying these airplanes in Basic Training earned it the nickname it was given unofficially.

These airplanes also have the distinction of being the longest operated and last of the biplanes used by the Navy even though the N2S 'Kaydet' was built in much larger numbers. Another unique feature of the 'YELLOW PERIL' was that it could be outfitted either with land gear or floats as pictured here. Also of note was that the entire left side of the airplane had panels that could be removed for ease of maintenance.
