With 'Father Goose' I once again revisit the iconic Grumman Goose, this time with Alaska Coastal-Ellis Airlines flying in Southeast Alaska. The Illustration is a tribute to aviation in Alaska and specifically Gerald 'Bud' Bodding, an Alaskan pioneer pilot and the highest time Goose pilot, he flew them from 1941 through 1974.
Alaska Coastal-Ellis airline was the merger of two airlines in 1962. The merger created the largest fleet of Goose aircraft in the world. In 1968, the airline was purchased by Alaska Airlines. The growth of land based airport operations in Alaska spelled the end for the venerable goose, and the last seaplanes were sold in 1973 although many continue to operate throughout Alaska and around the globe.
